Toshiba *quack*

I am so frustrated with Toshiba, but do not deal with them except our of necessity as they are no help. I now have my deceased brother's laptop from my family that he used for work as a tech support rep prior to his death. He had a really nice unit (in 2005), but it has a fingerprint reader on it for security. When I called Toshiba, they said I would have to replace the hard drive to access the computer. I got and installed the new hard drive with XP Pro (sorry!)as that's what was on there originally. I still can't get into it. I've changed the bios password to bypass the fingerprint security, but still can't get onto Windows and it doesn't load Windows when it starts up. I've read on Toshiba forums that since it's out of warranty, I could take the bios battery out for bit and it will reset. But, limited as I am on dismantellinga laptop, where in the sam hill is the bios battery? I really hate to trash his beloved computer, but like with him my frustration grows. Oh brother, what hath thou wrought upon thy sister?
