RV Internet in remote places

Recommended Posts

I will likely be retiring within the next 12 months and will be hitting the road off and on in our travel trailer.  We want to be able to "dry-camp" in remote locations that often have sketchy or no cell coverage.  We are considering satellite internet.  We are currently getting TV. Amazon and Netflix via our high speed internet connection (fiber optics) at home, but are unsure about what is the best solution for entertainment and internet access on the road, particularly in remote locations.  HELP!!!!

I foresee two main problems/downgrades from your home system capabilities:

  1. Satellite internet seems to top out at 25Mbytes/sec down, 3 Mbytes/sec up channel, although they do have unlimited data.  Fiber optic grade connections are unavailable.  And you may be paying the same as you do presently for that downgraded service.
  2. Even if you have a satellite dish, depending on your site, you may not get ANY Internet because you have no sighting of the geo-synchronous satellites in the sky (blocked by trees/mountains/buildings, etc.)
